Singing For The Player
The Concert
"Ikuto! Please come to my concert!" I wailed into the phone. "I need you there!"
"Come on Utau." He sighed. "I can't make it."
"You can't? Or is it that Amu is more important?" I retorted.
After a few seconds the line went dead. Seriously. She always comes before me. I don't see anything special about her.
I closed my cellphone and put it in my pocket. I stopped walking and looked at the window of some store. I looked at my reflection. Who wouldn't want me? I'm Utau Hoshina, one of the top idols in all of Japan. Amu, on the other hand, is just the local goody-goody.
He won't even go to his own sisters concert. He never goes. He's always 'busy'. I let out a sigh and continued walking. I'm always alone. No one is ever a true friend, or there for me. It's always business. Business this, business that.
Ugh, today is so hot. I took out a rag and wiped my forehead. I have to hurry and get to the agency. I began speed-walking.
-------------
"So is Ikuto coming, Utau?" My 'friend' Itsuki asked as I walked in my dress room. She was leaning on a chair reading a manga magazine.
"No. He's busy." I air quoted.
"Heh." She sighed. "What about Kukai? He seems like he could go."
I glared over at her.
"What does he have to do with this?" I growled.
"He stopped by earlier." She mumbled, flipping a page. Then she smiled over at me. "He was wondering where he could find you."
"I don't care, I don't need him to go." I said, sticking my face up."I'm going to get ready."
I kicked her out and began preparing my hair. Tonight will be fine. I don't need anyone. Not now. Not ever.
It took a few hours, but I finished. I was wearing a black dress that faded to purple at the bottom. My hiar was curled, only to look a little different. I sat there, looking at myself in the mirror, until I heard a knock at my dressing room door.
"Who is it?" I asked, looking back at the door.
"Snack delivery." Answered a male voice. Snack delivery?
"Come in." I stated, standing up. The door opened slowly, and then my eyes widened. "KUKAI?! WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!"
"Thought I'd cheer a friend on." He chuckled, walking up. He gave me a bear hug and released. "Thought you might need me."
"No, I don't need you." I said, fixing my hair. "Now leave."
He headed out the door, but stuck his head back in, throwing me a thumbs up sign. "Break a leg!" Then he left.
Grrrrrr. Why how dare he! I slammed the door shut and waited for my call.
------
I walked down the hall, being hurried by a stage man. I ignored him and grabbed my microphone. I walked out on the dark stage, and then a light flashed me in the spotlight.
Ikuto, how I wish you were here.
The melody began fading in. I looked up at the crowd, and guess who I saw in the back, with a smile on his face as he leaned against the wall. Kukai. I guess I'm not alone, with him here.
I began singing, watching everyone's eyes sparkle. The crowd began getting louder, to where I couldn't hear my own voice, but I kept going. I guess this is why I continue doing what I do. To see everyone smile at my music.
