The Black Pawn
(FMAb fanfic)
Scene 1- Give Me a Job!
She came to this country hoping to find some help. She can't remember why, but she did. She knew there was a man who could assist her, or perhaps help her remember what she needed to go to him for.
--------------------------------------------------------
"You got that Fullmetal?" The man in the blue uniform veered at the boy on the couch.
"Yeah, of course, Colonel," replied the boy in a voice that meant to say 'whatever'. He traditionally should be wearing a uniform identical to the man, but rather garbed himself in black attire accompanied by his signature red coat. It would have been another normal day for him, another assignment from the colonel, another trick for the dog of the military to perform. But things had been changing in the few days prior, all starting with the loss of a special friend. He sulked in the sofa of the office wishing he hadn't been on such a short string with the friend, even if he was now broke from room service fees.
The suit of armor sat up from the couch across from the boy. "Calm down, brother. Maybe we can find something to help us get Ling. You gotta be more optimistic!"
"Optomistic?" the boy scoffed. "This'll get us nowhere closer," he whispered to the armored kid.
"You never know what you'll find, Fullmetal." The two brothers froze in their seats.
They heard a knock on the door. An officer creaked it open and peeked inside. "There's someone here to see you, sir. A 'Raimi' girl, she says."
The man rested his head on his fists and sighed. "Tell her to come back later. Just say I'm busy."
"Yessir." The officer closed the door.
"Now, where were we-"
He was cut off by the door slamming back open by a young girl, no older than 17 with eyes sharp as daggars, in front of a very confused Havoc. She stomp-marched into the room, turned at an almost perfect 90 degree angle to his desk, and he jumped as she slammed her hands onto his desk.
"GIVE ME A JOB!"
The colonel's eyes drooped. "Oh, so that's what you wanted."
"YOU HEARD ME! GIMME A JOB!"Edward tried to stop her, but was immediately caught by the girl's sniper-like eyes and stepped back. "Colonel Roy Mustang," she continued.
Roy sighed. "We aren't hiring. Either way, I'm not the man to go to."
"But I'm an alchemist!" She barked. "I learned it to help this country!"
"Well in that case, go see-"
"This good enough evidence for you?" She interrupted clapping and smacking her hand on the table. A blue electric flash illuminated the room momentarily as a piece of the wooden desk was reformed into a small figurine in the shape of a dog.
"It's sure good enough," Colonel Mustang said, suddenly interested. "Good enough for me to arrest you." He stood up from his chair and was about to command Fullmetal to do so, but his attention was intercepted by the girl's wide, confused eyes that suddenly lost its piercing stare.
The girl's lips separated very slightly. "Who are you?"
